basketballNEWS TOA Meetings Concluded
TOA association meetings have concluded for 2011. As the basketball season begins, TOA members are prepared to take to the court. The reason TOA meetings begin in August and end mid-October is to be able to provide officials opportunities to work scrimmages and school games that begin in October. This year TOA has over 85 members, officials at all levels from beginners to experienced. Even though meetings are done, things to look forward to after basketball season will be the annual banquet and golf tournament in April/May of 2012.

Training Completed

The 2011 sessions for these two classes have been successful and have come to an end. Next is court time and evaluations to help prepare for the upcoming season. Be looking for games and scrimmages to be coming out in the next 3-4 weeks. Congratulations to all that participated in the training. A total of 32 hours of classroom and floor training over the last 8 weeks was offered to all. GREAT JOB!

basketballFYI TOA 2011 Banquet a Success
This years TOA banquet was held at Spencers BBQ and was well attended by TOA members and guests. Food and fellowship was enjoyed by all during this evening. Award winners this year were Rookie of the Year: Tadrick Durham, Most Improved: Marian Robinson, Camp Scholarships: Vance Thomas  and Marian Robinson. What a great season was had, and attention is now turned to the upcoming 2011-2012 season. .

AnnouncementTOA Elects Officers
Election of Officers was completed and announced October 17. These officers were elected by the TOA membership and will take on their duties beginning in March, after the 2011-2012 high school basketball season. These individuals have committed to lead/serve TOA in these positions for 2 years.

President - Michael Clayton
Vice President - Randy Smith
Treasurer - Kerry Sanders
Secretary - TC Coleman

The Executive Committee also added 2 individuals who will become active immediately.

Robert Farris

basketballNEWS NFHS '11-'12 Rules Changes.

CENTER RESTRAINING CIRCLE SPECS (1-3-1): changed to permit a minimum of a ¼-inch-wide single line but a line no wider than 2-inches to designate the outer edge of the circle.

SPECIFICATIONS REGARDING ARM COMPRESSION SLEEVES (3-5-3): changed to require the item to be white, black, beige or a single solid school color, be the same color for each team member and have only a single manufacturer’s logo that does not exceed 2 ¼ square inches. Arm compression sleeves must still be worn for medical purposes.

TEAM CONTROL WILL NOW EXIST DURING A THROW-IN (4-12-1; 4-12-2; 4-12-6): Several definitions were changed to reflect that team control will now exist during a throw-in when the thrower-in has the ball at his/her disposal. The change primarily affects how foul penalties will be administered.
